Board Report Summer 2009
To ensure the longevity and energy efficiency and beauty of the Skaggs Catholic Center, the Executive Director of Operations and the Board are developing a long-range facilities plan. This summer, the following improvements were made, with the help of grants and net revenue from cost centers outside the school budgets.
- 84 trees were planted by a board-led group of volunteers.
- A new 4.1 million BTU furnace was installed. It will run at 95% efficiency, and uses 80% LESS fuel used than the larger furnace – much better when the seasons change and weather is eratic.
- 14.8 tons of paper were recycled at Skaggs Catholic Center, saving 251 trees, 103,600 gallons of water, 60,709 kwh of energy and 5,624 gallons of oil.
- Installed 24 ft. fans in the auditorium and replaced bulbs for higher energey efficiency
- A new greenhouse was contributed through Draper Chamber’s Healthy Draper program and is being installed with the help of the Environmental Club.
- A design has been contributed for a grotto to surround the Mother Teresa statue given to us by the Skaggs family.
- The Girls Softball dugout and landscaping were completed, funded in part by donations.
- All three gym floors were refinished and basketball standards refurbished.
- A new PA system was installed in the Soaring Eagle Stadium to improve soccer, lacrosse and football coverage.
